Description: Impervious surfaces for San Marcos, TX mapped from 2017 high-resolution aerial imagery. Impervious surfaces of two types were mapped: (1) buildings, (2) other paved surfaces. Buildings consist of structures with a height of at least 8 feet. Other paved surfaces consist of all other impervious features and highly compacted soils. Examples include roads, driveways, and parking lots. Care was taken to not include pervious features that are spectrally similar to impervious features, such as gravel beds.Impervious surfaces were mapped using a semi-automated approach. Object-based image analysis (OBIA) techniques were used to automatically extract impervious surfaces, then these features were manually reviewed and edited at a scale of 1:500.The purpose of this project was to map impervious surfaces to support calculating per-parcel impervious metrics. As such, greater effort was put forth in reviewing and editing impervious surfaces that fall within parcels as opposed to those in the right-of-way (ROW).
